Moona Luomanen – The private life of a cat

My first contact with photography was when I was five years old. I imagined that i had a camera, run in the woods and searched for views to photograph. After that every summer my mom bought me a disposable camera.

I got my Nikon D80 in summer 2008 and have been photographing with that ever since. I am interested of capturing animals, modeling, views and people. Black&white pictures are close to my heart.

Katri Tuukkanen – Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them

I’m almost 19 years old Audiovisual Communication student. This is my last year in Culture institute but I want to continue my photography studies in an university of applied sciences. I would also be interested in studying Finnish literature. 

                

I don’t have to decide about my future right now. I am a dual qualification student so after I graduate from Culture institute, I still one year to go at high school.

I have been interested in photographing about 4,5 years and I most prefer nature photography. I love music and it inspires me a lot.

Henna Polvi – Face your fears and live your dreams

I’ve been interested in photography for a long time. I got my Canon EOS 1000D in spring 2009, after that I’ve taken thousands of photos.

I love to travel. And I love to stop the moment with pictures. Photos are best memories that you can get.

Black and white pictures are really close to my heart.

In future I would love to work in foreign countries. Maybe in some kind of fashion magazine.

Susanna - Passion For Photography

My name is Susanna Noponen. I was born in 1991. I live in Kokkola, and I come from a small place called Kyyjärvi. I think I have always been “creative” and liked to take photos, draw, design and much more. From an early age my relatives have praised how good I with my hands.

It took a while before I heard about this school. For six months I studied cooking and I noticed right away that it wasn’t my thing. Then I changed to Culture Institute. I have liked to study in this school. I've learned quite a lot of new things. I am particularly interested in studio photography. I also like to take photographs of landscapes if there are stunning sceneries.

I prefer to work in a studio. Fashion and portrait photography is perhaps the most interesting to me. I like to take dramatic black and white images with a dark and mystic atmosphere. They have always been a passion of mine.

In the future I would like to work perhaps as a photographer in a larger studio, where I get to take model photos, fashion photos, etc. Or maybe in an ad agency as a graphic designer designing a variety of ads, posters and magazines.

Laura Puukangas - Photography in the blood

I like portrait photography. I also photograph a lot by myself.

I have photographed about 3 years now. Before I just loved to edit pictures until I happened to end up studying here in Kälviä Culture Institute and fell in love with photography. 

It has been 3 years since I came here and I wouldn’t change those years for anything else.

Mira Perälä - Self Reference, Sentimental Decadence

Aside from traveling around the globe and never graduating, I sometimes actually take photos.

I'm in love with my Holga n120 and other old film cameras. I enjoy capturing the moment on the film, just like it is. No photoshop or other editing. That's why I never really got into digital photography.

I hope I can travel even more in the future, and capture all of my adventures on film.

Minna Ranto - Seize the day

I’ve been interested in photography for a long time. I decided to take a chance and applied to our school Central Ostrobotnia Culture Institute.  I didn't know the place nor the people when I first arrived, but I have been here now for almost three years. I haven't regretted a day.

I have experience about working in a photography studio. We had our 10 weeks work practice that I spent in a photography studio called Studio Fotodesign. While working there, I got to take lots of studio pictures and I also did a lot photo editing. 

I really like working in a studio.

Outside the studio work I like taking documentary photos and portraits. I documented my sister's wedding last summer and I'm currently working for a band. I'm doing their promo shoots, cd covers and other artwork for their first cd. I also document their live performances. 

At the moment I hope that I'll get accepted to Lahti University of Applied Sciences where I would major in photography.

Bad tourism? Good Photography

Collaboration No. 1

We didn’t sleep much the first night in Finland. 3 of us got the bright idea of going to the train track and taking a picture of a passing by train by strobing it with a flash from the side, we failed miserably. Then we decided to just strobe everything else, and this is what we got. Collaboration work of Gediminas, Justas and Me.

This was our second bright idea that night. Long exposure and the flashes test button, works wonders. Hope I didn’t scare you to much. Again this is a collaboration work.

An Hdr image made in the small island with the fishing village we were taken to… Whether was much better than I make it seem in this photo tough, but this sets a better mood in my opinion.

Leave it to me to photograph things you can find anywhere, while visiting a foreign country. I’m a terrible tourist! : (

We had a wonderful time in Finland and were looking forward to seeing you in spring.

Trip to fishermen island

 The atmosphere of the island.

Tools of the fishermen, old and new ones.

The light tower got quite crowded. Even the ones afraid of heights felt like they had to see the island from above.

We were quite lucky to have sunny weather on this trip. The peacefulness of the area was quite a refreshment for our group coming from the always busy capital Vilnius. Most were upset to leave and would have happily roamed the island for the whole day.
